The Honors Program The Saint Vincent Honors Program brings together students from across the college who share a vigorous commitment to intellectual life. The backbone of the program is the set of Honors courses that enable such students to pursue a liberal education characterized by intense conversation and work with dedicated professors. We are also seeking to form a broader intellectual community, where the ideas that students explore in the classroom take on a life of their own in the lives of our students. Honors students have the opportunity to participate in special extracurricular activities, including evening discussions and cultural excursions.

Classroom Experience What are some of the unknown benefits of being in the Honors Program? The Honors Program has a staff with a broad commitment to providing enrichment to the students of the program.

We bring in speakers from other universities and host luncheons with leaders in various industries. We are trying to do even more this coming year by going to cultural and art events around Atlanta. We offer assistance and guidance from dedicated staff members.

We hold classes that dive deeply into diverse and important subject fields. And we provide a living space for a community of like-minded, curious individual. However, we can only provide so much. With the Student Challenge Fund and other discretionary funding, Honors Program Students willing to work with the staff can find ways to fund study abroad programs, clubs and events, alternative spring breaks, etc.

You remain free to accept or decline Georgia Tech's offer of admission. How and when will I know if I've been selected for the Honors Program?

The Honors Program typically notifies selectees in late April, early May of each year. How does the Honors Program coordinate with the Housing Department? You should apply for housing separately, by the housing application deadline. Once our decisions are made and our list of incoming Honors Program students is finalized, we work closely with the Housing Department to ensure that all Honors Program students are placed in the Honors Program residence hall.

If you accept an invitation to be a member of the Honors Program as long as you have paid the housing deposit and submitted a housing applicationyou will be placed in the Honors Program residence hall regardless of which dorm you specify on your application.

Scholarships, Financial Aid and Other Programs Does the Honors Program entitle me to a scholarship or some other sort of financial aid? Admission to the Honors Program does not automatically entitle you to a scholarship or other kind of financial aid.

However, Georgia Tech has many need- and merit-based scholarships for which you may qualify. While we hope to provide such opportunities in the future, the Honors Program does not offer any scholarships at this time. If I'm selected for both, can I participate in both?

Yes, you can be considered and selected for both. Students in the Honors Program participate in numerous programs and majors, and we strongly encourage them to take full advantage of the many curricular and extracurricular options Georgia Tech has to offer.

The Honors Program itself is not a separate major. Rather, it is a program that works with students and the various academic units at Georgia Tech to develop an inquiry-based approach to learning that serves well in any major.

Do Honors Program Students experience advantages in getting jobs and internships? The Honors Program does have networking opportunities, and our weekly email will often contain links to apply to scholarships, internships and other programs.

Involvement with the Honors Program does add to the resume and can be something that catches the attention of employers. We have come to expect a high success rate from our students, but we can't simply say that it is a product of being part of the Honors Program alone.

Over the years, students have expressed that the first year Honors Program residence hall experience is one of the most important means of establishing a strong student community. Unless there are compelling circumstances, first-year Honors Program participants will be expected to live in the Honors Program residence hall.

One of the primary goals of the Honors Program is to provide opportunities for informal interactions between students and faculty outside the classroom, and many of the Honors Program extra- and co-curricular activities will take place in or around the residence hall. Living in the Honors Program dorm, then, helps students participate fully in the life of the Honors Program community.

Doing so does not, however, isolate our students from the rest of the campus community. Honors Program students take their meals, for instance, in Woodruff Dining Hall, the main dining facility that serves all of the residence halls on West Campus.
